Taking root? | |
Shinigami Ichthyophile Catfish/Oddball Fan Posts: 9962 Kudos: 2915 Registered: 22-Feb-2001 | I just got some plants (for the first time in years...). I got Java Fern, Anubias, Cabomba, and Java Moss. I was curious how long it'll take for the Java Fern and Anubias to properly anchor themselves (to wood or rock), and how long it'll take for the Cabomba cuttings to start growing roots? -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Just secure the rhizomes with some cotton thread and by the time the thread degrades, they'll be on there like cement. Can't help you with the cabomba. Never had luck with it. |

(Limnophila indica will do this too and is even messier. ) Apparently the exploding plant trick is a light issue. They don't like to be planted in the shade of other plants. They're best planted in bunches of stems, and don't produce much of a root system really, that I know of. I've never tried the other Cabombas. I vote! Do you? |

It will depend totally on your tank lighting, and ferts you use. I only tie with 15lb nylon fishing line. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I guess maybe that Cabomba is going to blow up on me in a matter of time, though; I never knew they were so troublesome. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
