Tank Pics, Semi Planted | |
ScottF Fish Addict Addiction Hurts!! Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | You can find some pics of my semi-planted tank on my blog at www.gettingtanked.blogspot.com I have wisteria and anacharis planted and I plan to get more of each, they seem to be growing well, although the wisteria is getting covered in some brown algae (diatoms?) Anyhow, you can see how the leaves of the wisteria (from bottom to top) have transformed in the couple months I have had them. |

fishmonster Big Fish Oh My Heck! Posts: 329 Kudos: 88 Votes: 73 Registered: 11-Apr-2007 | Dear Scott The wysteria you have was grown in emersed water and then you submerged it. So the two kinds of leaves you have are from going from emersed growth to submerged growth. The Full leaves will eventually die off and the newer leaves will take their place. If you have long stems with no growth on them, i suggest cutting the stems down so that the new growth can easily reach the substrate and im sure you will be seeing new roots from the plants. I agree with claudia on the fact that we would love to see a full tank shot to get a good idea of whats going on in the tank. Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | when I say semi-planted, I mean that there are some plastic plants as well as the live ones... when I got the wistera, I believe they were indeed floaters, with those full leaves. I prefer the thinner leaves, even though they have developed some brown crud... |

Do you have any special substrate for them, or did you just plant them in your existing gravel? I don't know much about algae, but if you go to "search" & type in brown algae all kinds of threads come up about it. I wish you luck with it! |

The difformis that you bought was grown in water but you have now submerged it in the water so its no longer has contact to the air and so the leaves are reacting to the change in environment and are becomming the underwater version of the difformis/Wysteria. ScottF Fish Addict Addiction Hurts!! Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | nd here's a good peek at the wcmm's... they really look great, glad I added them. I dropped the temp in my tank from 80 gradually down to about 74, to give the wcmm's a better feel, and the anacharis a fighting chance... here you can see the brown gunk on my wisteria even better... I was looking for a BN pleco but the LFS didnt have one, no sae's either |

As far as the corys go you could put a la substrate you've got .I've added gravel many times , just wash it very well and use a coffee mug to lower it to the bottom of the tank . An inch should be ok I think , you could also remove a bit of the current stuff the same way, if your worried about the substrate being too deep. That will probably kick up a bit of mulm but your filter should be able to handle that . Corys are so much fun I think they would be worth the effort . Garry |

ScottF Fish Addict Addiction Hurts!! Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | man, that's good thinking garry... I love cories, but in my 20g I am guessing that I am close to full fish capacity at this point... I dunno, maybe 6 lil cories wouldnt hurt... I'll tell you what, my aquaclear HOB clears any water debris pretty quickly following water changes and gravel vacs... it's really pretty amazing, I had just done a 25% WC, gravel vac an hour or so prior to taking those pics... |

I want to see this tank again when everything is filled in. And yeah, I thought I HAD big gravel. Pretty little fish you have there, the WCMM. We don't have them around here. I wish you luck with it all scott! |
