I post this on behalf of a friend who has put cuttings from her indoor potted plants into the aquarium ... can you do this safely and are there certain plants that should not be used at all.

I have seen syngoniums submersed before.

She was thinking of using a rhododendron but I have advised her not to do it. Can anyone give me some advice to pass on.

Thanx for your help in advance - crusha

Plants that are not true or at least semi-aquatic will die off sooner or later.. It doesn't hurt of course to experiment and cuttings are free. Bamboo lasts awhile as does a few others..

I found 'Baby Tears' at my parents home in a pot by the window. There's an aquatic by the same name and appearance. Some will find their way into my soon coming emmersed crypt/moss setup, then once it's used to the more humid environment, a piece will 'fall' into my tank.

Some people have bog plants growing in their filters !

The Amazon Nut...

Very simple answer there are water plants and there are garden plants and that is where they belong and will not grow in each others areas.

If you cannot convence her let he do it her way she will find out the hard way the plants will die and so could many of the fish.
