1-What is the secret to growing wisteria(Hygrophila difformis) to the top without bending over. I have tried this plant 2 times and it always bends over. I plant each stem seperately to give them room. Substarte is Fluorite. 29 gallon tank. Excel dosed daily. 1.25 watts of fluorescent. My H. polysperma and Rotala indica do very well under these conditions. Both the Rotala and the polysperma get pink tinted leaves as they get a few inches below the water line.
2-Cryptocoryne wendtii var. tropica- I bought a nice pot of this at my Walmart(one thing i give them a 100% on is their potted plants) last week. It came with 7 individual plants. None of the leaves melted off. Why? It was grown emersed. Will this plant do fairly well in my tank? I allready have 5 green wendtii's which have really kicked off their growth ever since i swithched from eco to fluorite for some reason. I bought 2 at LFS which were labeled as greens. Had them for a year with no reproduction. Bought a "green" wendtii at a different store a few months ago which is different from the two originals but different coloring and has put off two runners in the past month with little miniature crypts on it.

Hi,
I have the same tank but with a 65 watt compact flourscent
on it which gives me a "tad" over 2wpg. The clue to your
answer is the leaves turning pink as they approach the
surface where the light is more intense. I believe that
if you change your wpg you will find significant changes
in the plants behaviour.
I have been away on vacation, and when I returned, I
was buried in work. All I've done to my tank for two
weeks has been to top it off for evaporation.

I'll post a picture here in this response later today.
I probably should label it under the category of
"Tanks Gone Wild."

I also have the Bronze or "Red" Wendtii in the tank and
in the pictures you can see the leaves poking through
the mass of wiseria and other plants on the right.
They started out as tiny runners with 1/4 inch leaves
poking out of the substrate.

Frank

Regarding the Wisteria - that's just the way wisteria grows. In fact, I believe the reason it's used in some aquascapes is because of the fact that it grows diagonally and horizontally, it creates different lines flowing in different directions. You can even train it to stay low and grow across the lower section of the tank.

And this is the other half (the right side) of the jungle.
I hate throwing plants away. The durned things grow too
fast, and I only have room for just so many tanks.

Frank, can't you take the nicer trimmings into the LFS for some store credit? The store I work at will give you half of what we sell it for in cash.

Hi Matt,
I stopped going to the LFS 13 years ago when I asked them
to order something, and it never came in. Turns out I
found out that when I walked out of the store the owner
tossed my order. Then, another time I needed a replacement
bulb. I was told that they were in the back but they did
not have the time to go back and get one and to come back
the next day and they would be on the shelves. 4 employees
were in the store really doing nothing, and I was the only
customer.

My only other choice is the local Pet-S-Mart and they can't
do anything like that as it would threaten their contracts
with their suppliers.

Thanks Matt!
Frank

That's a terrible story Frank. I wouldn't think an LFS that operated that way could stay in business. Maybe one day another will open close to you and treat costomers better.

Really, why go into business if you're going to act like that? Tossing orders? Not going to the supply room to get something for a customer? They do realize that by doing those simple things they're MAKING MONEY, right? It just doesn't make sense...
