Xmas moss vs. Java Moss | |
RNJ_Punk Big Fish Cory Fanatic Posts: 395 Kudos: 114 Votes: 137 Registered: 12-Nov-2006 | Is there a difference in the two? The reason I ask is becasue today I bought what was sold to me as java moss to put on my driftwood and rocks but after looking at pics of both it seems I have both? |

It will look like regular java if tank is too warm or growing conditions need work. My 'sample' is in a bottle and looking pretty stringy, once I get it into a tank etc it should grow more healthy. Falstaf Fish Addict Posts: 785 Kudos: 1211 Votes: 196 Registered: 12-Feb-2004 | In my experience, it's quite easier to grow xmas moss than java moss, it will thrive in any regular tank, tends to prefer more light than java, but it will also grow faster, attaches faster and it will do great moss walls. The real difference is that xmas moss will form ramifications as opposite to java moss which is more “stringy”, and like single stemmed. Adapts great to warm water or cool water, I have it on planted tanks and also betta tanks, no heat and thrives in both, only difference I can notice is a slight color difference, in cold water it's darker.
