I'm growing some algae on a rock just in a bucket of water on my porch, (to feed my Pleco's) if i put this in the tank will the algae suddenly bloom and take over?

No, I doubt that would happen. It would be eaten too fast.

The Plecos will take care of the Algae & you shouldn't have any problems.

Simply fed the pleco Zucchini, squash, blanched peas/spinach etc if you want to fed them greens.
