Cause Thread algae are actually an indicator of very good water conditions (in most cases nitrate cannot be found). However, they do not look very good and can also overgrow plants and thus destroy them. The development is encouraged in particular when exposed to direct sunlight. Combat The algae can be wound up by means of a little stick (chopsticks) and thus mechanically removed. Remains which are still annoying should be combated (there are possibly many prepared products that can be used including Sera's algopur). A lot of healthy plants also prevent the growth of thread algae.
