I have java fern attached to both driftwood and lava rock with thread. How long does it take to become attached, or should I just wait until the thread disintegrates?

Takes awhile IME for it to attach...least a few months...to become firmly attatched takes even longer. I just leave my thread the way it is .

my best guess is that it will attach within a month or so...and I wouldn't plan on removing the thread...also I would hope that your thread would last at least that long even in a fish tank...best of luck, heidi

I've used fishing line and rubber bands as well. My problem with the rubber bands is that mine seemed to degrade rather easily and the java fern was as likely to attach to the rubber band as it was to the wood :%)....I'm still finding the occasional bit of blue rubber in the tank .

Took mine a couple months to firmly attach, Even then some pieces would float away when I would move it.

I just got some java fern that I attached to some driftwood and rock. They LFS said it would "grow like crazy" and I've be bringing some back to them because it could take over the tank! Two weeks later and I'm not seeing any signs of it attaching. I'm not very patient...

I want to try and attach some of my Java Ferns to Lava Rock - how do you attach it? I am going to use cotton, so do I tie the cotton around the roots and then the rock or do I tie the cotton around the rhizome then onto the rock??? Thanks in advance.
