In my 40g some of the plants have gone brown, mainly the Cryptocoryne beckettii and the java fern. What could be the problem. The light is on from 7am untill 11pm. i have just moved the tank to my new place, i can't remember if they were brown before.

Can the plants be saved?

see 40g tank link for equipment and food details

Hi,
A couple of things... After moving plants, especially
crypts, they have a "set back" as they get resettled
in their new locations. Crypts are very sensitive
and can have what is called a "Melt down."

Remove the dead/dying leaves, leaving only the firm
(not spongy) plant material, and they should recover.
By the way, your photo period (the time the lights
are on) should be around 10 hours, not the 16 hours
you indicate.

Out of curiousity, what wattage do you have in your tank? If you're leaving the lights on for so long, maybe you should upgrade them.
I agree with Frank about the plants' sensitivity, just remove the dead parts, and the plants should grow back.
