I'm losing my anubias!

i thought it was glue from some juice bottles, (i had it in my betta bottle tank for about 8 days) but now its still coming back, i'm thinking fungus.

Ive lost heaps of leaves, please help me mend my first wonderful plant

EDIT: WHAT IS THE WHITE STUFF ON THE WOOD??
I think i'm dealing with 2 related problems.

this is what it USED to look like
(this was about 10 months ago, it was considerably bigger before this 'illness'(?) struck)

I can't help you out in healing your plant, but I just wanted to say that I've now identified my mystery plant thanks to your pictures.

Also, my plant looked like yours does now and it is slowly growing back. (It was nearly decimated before I moved it to a different tank in a last ditch effort to save it.) It now has better light and is in a heated tank, so I think that may be what helped it.

I know what I've said probably doesn't help you much, but I thought I'd peek in and wish you good luck... it certainly is a lovely plant and gives me hope that mine might someday look like yours did.

Hi,
From the two completely differen pictures, I see all
kinds of changes to the tank, to what it was attached
to, and probably to the water conditions as well.
I suspect that all those changes have added up to
a "melt down."

Clean the plant by removing any dead or rotting leaves
and do the same to the root system, remove any mushy
or discolored roots. While you are at it, be sure
to remove any "soft, mushy" part of the rhyzome as
well.
Feed it with some "general" fert such as Fluourish,
and leave it alone with good light.

Being ill as it is, algae might take advantage of it,
you might want to put some floating plants it to suck
up the excess nutirents before the algae does.

Frank

Yes, when i moved, it did change tanks, but before that, it was always in the main tank... when i realised it was rotting, i moved it to the axolotl tank, which has decent light and only one other plant.

And er, that is exactly the same hunk of wood, i have never detached it it looks terrible

I wish I did but haven't seen anything like that.
Very nice anubias though, I hope you can save it !

How do you attach it to driftwood, same as java ferns ?

WOW. That white stuff is not normal! LOL.

I think it is a form of fungus/bacteria and it's also killing off the anubias. What sort of fish do you have callatya? If you have the room I'd suggest a bristlenose catfish for you - it should help clear up that white fungus by its constant sucking and grazing on the driftwood.

Hmmm... I have a feeling it has something to do with the water quality - what's your water quality like? Somthing like doing extra water changes might also help clear that white stuff up.

Firstly, clear that white stuff up then concentrate on helping the anubias For the anubias liquid fert will help a lot.

2nd thought, boil then scrub the driftwood, then bake it..
then soak in boiled water. Maybe this will kill whatever it is. Then carefully cleaning the anubias (dunno if that white stuff can be wiped or scrubbed gently off)..

I'm doubting Callatya has a water quality problem,
that would surprise the heck outta me

Good luck !

I have a similar problem currently. One plant on one side of the tank rotted, identical plant on the other side looks good. Both pieces of my driftwood had the white "fungus" with some areas starting to go to a green shade. My driftwood is lfs grapevine wood so I have no idea if that has anything to do with a type of rot or not.
I removed my wood and scrubbed it with a tooth brush and a bottle of peroxide and put it back in the tank. About a week later the white stuff started coming back as well as the green stuff now. I have a 29 usg with only 2 corys & 1 BN and low lighting so that may have alot to do with my problem as well. I am still waiting for more of the same kind of corys to find their way to lfs. My tank is cycled and nitrates have never gone over 10 and my BN won't touch the stuff, LOL. That could be cause he is really lazy too as he don't go far from the glass next to the heater. I plan on trying a different type of driftwood with in the next few months just because I am unsure of which way to go with this problem. I was really hoping someone had a definite answer on your question for both of us. Good luck

that would require me taking the anubias off.... and i dont know if that would be certain death for it. Anyone?

And i have had the odd WQ issue, but this one is fine.

I have forcefully removed anubias from rocks before, and although the root system got damaged it never died on me, actually since the roots were so long and I had trouble getting them in the soil I just took scissors and cut them off at an even 2 cm length. However, I don't dare saying whether this is something that always works out the way it did for me, but the younger parts where it makes new roots should not have any problem surviving.
