can some one provide me with names and pictures of fast growing high light plants? i need them to be fast growing so it would outgrow the algae and take the nutrients that would be present in my tank once i get my CO2 setup and i put my plant ferts in. that would hopefully prevent an algae out break.

i need names and pictures because my LFS doesnt say which plants are what. its just seperated into two tanks named rooted ("potted plants" according to them) and loose ones.

www.azgardens.com has some good pictures of various plants.. i would check their for the pics as i dont have any on hand.
by good/fast growing plants.. do u mean plants that will pull alot of nitrate from the water? or do u mean plants that look good and will fill in fast?

If your looking for a nitrate sponge i would go with just about any floating plants.. since they can pull Co2 from the air they are will grow alot faster than plants that are fully submerged and limited to Co2 in the water collumn.
Frogbit (limnobium laevigatum)
Water lettuce (pistia stratiotes)
Water hyacinth (eichhornia crassipes)
Duckweed (lemna minor)

If your looking for something to grow completely under the water to fill in the display
Rotala Indica
Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis)
Cabomba (Cabomba caroliniana)
Hornwort (Ceratophyllum submersum)
ludwigia repens
if your have over 3 wpg lighting you could myriophyllum
red myriophyllum (myriophyllum tuberculatum)
green myriophyllum (myriophyllum aquaticum)
just about all swords grow reasonable fast if you have Co2
General rule with fast growing plants (not always)
Dark green = slower growth.. less need for bright light.
red = high light requirementj
ligher green = moderate to fast growth assuming all nutriunt, light and temp requirements are provided
dont buy plants that have black roots.. roots should be white and should be growing out of pots.. plants sold in bunches are usually top cuttings and will establish roots givin time.

Good luck hope the link helps.. this site should have most of these plants.. if not.. a quick google search should help.. these are all fairly common with the exeption of the floating plants wich i can never find

Again good luck and have fun planting that tank!!!

Another great site is http://www.tropica.com/. At the top right of the page, you will find an ADVANCED SEARCH button. Click it to find the following fast growing plants to start an aquarium:
Echinodorus Bleheri
Hygrophila Difformis
Hygrophila Polysperma (all forms)
Ceratophyllum Demersum
Ceratopteris Cornuta
Ceratopteris Thalictroides

As I said before, Limnophilla aromatica is my favourite plant at the moment. It is a difficult plant, but with high lights and co2 it grow very fast for me. It has a nice foliage that is basically green but turns purple if the lights are intense enough. Its structure as it grows is just amazing to me. This here is an alright picture of it, but it really does look much better once in the tank, especially if you plant them some close.

It's so fast growing in my tank, that this morning the longest shoot stem was about 1cm below the water level, and now (5 hours later) it is out of the water, about 1cm. If I find the camera cable I will take a picture of mine later for you to see.
