i use a hagen diy co2 canister on my tank and it usually takes about a week to get warmed up and then only usually produces about 1 bubble every couple of seconds.

last night i decided to start my own in a 2 liter bottle, i used about a 1 1/2 cups of sugar, some yeast, baking soda and molassa's. i woke up this morning to see bubbles comming like crazy. over night my diy co2 started producing 1 bubble per second. that's crazy, is this bad and how long do you think it will last.

DIY CO2 starts to slow down over a few days. Shake the bottle up once a week and it'll build itself back up again. DIY generally needs to be replaced once a month or so. I've never heard of using the molasses though....

someone had a post about a mont or two ago that said to add molassis and protein powder to the mix, so i tried it. i was just suprised because with the hagen unit i did not see any bubbles for about 2-3 days and that was only a few bubbles every couple of seconds. with my mix i am getting 1 bubble a second and it was only mixed up for about 8 hours, and i don't know exactly when it started.

i was just a little worried that it started producing so fast, exspecially because it is on the tank that have my krib fry in it.

The bubbles are caused by fermentation. Try boosting the temp where the fermentation unit is located.

It is interesting that the hagen unit seems to take so long. Warm area and a good solid shake should help it....or just use a DIY mix in the hagen .
