i know i can manually remove it but is there another way to combat green spot algae?

tank is a 70g moderately planted with plain gravel substrate, approx 2.5wpg lighting 11 hours a day. no CO2.
water conditions:
ph 7.0
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10-15ppm
temp 26c

tank pic before algae but should give an idea of the ammount of planting.

i now have a liberal covering of spot algae on the back glass and quite a bit on the front.

more pics/info could be provided if it will help you advise me.

thanks

I would suggest co2. The only time spot algae has become a problem for me is in a tank with over 2wpg, plenty of plants, and no co2. My 5g with 4wpg started having spot algae until I used flourish excel and whenever the co2 got low or quit on my 55g the whole front glass would be coated in hard green spots. When I got the co2 back to completely working the algae would steadily dissapear. Right now my 90g has no co2 and again I have spot algae so I've been using flourish excel until I can get the co2 setup.

The common advice I've seen given here to combat green spot algae is to make sure you have enough phosphate to get a nitrate : phosphate ratio of 10:1. Recommended phosphate level is 0.5-1.0 ppm. I've noticed a substantial reducation of green spot algae in my tank glass ever since I added a weekly dose of phosphate into my tank (1.7wpg). Funnily enough, I've never seen green spot algae in my other tanks with lower lighting, with or without CO2 (Excel) and added phosphate.

Partial fert as it supplements carbon only. See http://seachem.com/products/planted.html for a full list of Seachem plant products.

I was a bit surprised at your water temps if you still have discus in the tank. Although 26C is within the range for the fish, mine are much more active and vital at 29C.

I have corydoras aeneus in the tank. Although I enjoy them the tank temp is set for the comfort of the most expensive fish, discus. The temp is 29C with the aeneus spawning, go figure!
