If you have pieces of bogwood in your aquarium, let it grow on that.

Java Moss grows wonderfully on bogwood. You want to see the veritable mountain of green fur I end up with if I don't prune the stuff regularly!

In fact, that's how it usually prefers to grow given a chance. Adhering to solid surfaces. If you just plonk it down on gravel, you'll end up with a tangle in your gravel that will be a complete pig to gravel vac.

If you have a nice piece of gnarled, ornamental looking bogwood, letting it grow on that will create a wonderful decorative piece for the aquarium that [1] will look natural [2] will provide a wonderful hiding place for Guppy fry and similar baby fishes that appear in your aquarium [3] adult fishes of many kinds will use it as a spawning medium - Characins and Corydoras catfishes to name but two big groups of aquarium fishes that will press it into service [4] it also acts as a haven for small creatures that will supplement your fishes' diet. Danios, small Barbs and Rasboras will also use it as a spawning medium.

If you have creatures such as Amano or Cherry Shrimps, then Java Moss will also provide a place for the baby shrimps to live in - and give your fishes some nice picking opportunities into the bargain as they go hunting for the baby shrimps!

Incidentally, you haven't lived until you've seen Panda Corys burrowing into the stuff to use as a bed for the night - they give you a bit of a shock the next morning when they look as if they've died in there at first sight, only to wake up and start buzzing around the aquarium like mad once breakfast hits the water! Not to mention the frantic burrowing they engage in when they're spawning in it ...

Java Moss will grow to just about anything you tie it to.
It can also grow across the substrate, & literally anywhere else you want it to

I agree with the above comments it is an extremly hardy plant once it gets established. You can tie it firmly with 15lb fishing line.
