If i have java moss, and i cut a piece from the top off, will the piece that i cut off grow into another plant? Same question with java fern. Also with those 2 plants (45g) would it matter if i had an airstone?

I believe you should be able to cut off java moss and both parts will be perfectly fine.

With java Fern, they have smaller plants that start to grow off the ends of the leaves (thats what i've experianced) so you should just pull the small plants off and have a second (or third, forth, etc. etc.) plant.

Also, both are pretty easy to grow and should be fine with an airstone as long as you arn't using CO2.

I am not familiar with Java moss but the Java fern new plantlets shoot from the tops of the older established leaves.
When I had it growing I just let them float until they got a decent size then I tied a few together on wood or a small rock with fishing line.
I always had plenty of air movement and never appeared a problem, though they can be caught up in intakes of some filters.
