OK - I checked out lights at my local hardware store and LFS and it seems I have run into a problem. I have 18in, 15 watt (came with the tank) currently. I cannot find lights that will give me 2 wpg in my 36 gal corner tank. All of the more powerful lights come in the 24 in size but not the 18 in! What should I do?

Thanks
Tinfil

if worse comes to worst you can always put a 24inch fixture on an 18inch tank. you should be able to find a hood for your tank at the lfs though, 18 inches doesn't sound like a very rare tank size to me...

sorry, i thought you meant you were looking for a new fixture... if you can't find a bulb that works for you then you are looking at a new hood, yes.

Contact a electrical supplier or a shop that only sells lights etc.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

You do know the watts of a flourescent bulb are determined by it's length right? So all normal 18in flourescent bulbs will be the same. That's why many tanks require compact flourescents to get alot of light over them. Compact flourescents bend or twist the bulbs so you have a long bulb taking up half or so as much space. There are also High Output and Very High Output flourescent bulbs which put out more light without more length but you'd probably have to change your ballast and special order these at a much higher cost than normal flourescents or even compact flourescents in some cases.
