i have an open ten gallon tank because the fish that was in there died so i figured instead of doing the same stuff and buying a couple little fish i want to try something new i bought fine gravel for my tank and i have a 30 watt light now i just need to know how many plants i can put into this tank and also should i have air stones and fish (does this help the plants in any way) if there are some people who have done wat i am doing to a ten please help thanks

and also do rams eat live plants?

No you should not put an airstone in a planted tank. It increases suface agitaion and kills your CO2 levels in the water. No rams do not eat plants...IME anyway

Hi,
Go to this site:
http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/2004.cgi?&Scale=2&op=showpage&name=view-ag-s

This is the site for the Aquatic Gardeners Association
contest, small tank entries, and look through them.
It should give you lots of inspriation, planting ideas,
and what is necessary for a successful tank.

Each entry shows what plants they use, the substrate,
if they use CO2 or not, and their planting arragement.

Frank

It's best to remove plants from the pot (I assume that's what you meant by plastic bucket). That will allow the roots to spread out and the plant to grow better.

Yes that's called a pot. Even with the holes it's still going to cause problems which is why you should remove the plant.

But, your tank your plants do what you want.

No it is not in a special soil...It is in a special cotton bed dosed with nutrients to help growth. This stuff should be removed, it can muck up your water. I owe Frank A LOT of thanks for that tidbit of info.

Just peel it off the roots very carefully and then plant it in your substrate.

What kind of plant did you got?

Some bulb plant don't like to have the bulb under the substrate, but it depends on what kind it is, if it has large roots and a bulb just burry the roots and leave the bulb half way exposed to the surface.

hmmmm never heard of that one, let me check my enciclopedia. Did they gave you a common name?

Did it had a tag naming the conditions of the plant, and maybe do you have the brand of the plant, eg. tropica, lucanas etc?
