All algae removers, no matter how "effective" or gentle on fish/plants, are basically a waste of money.

They don't tackle the root cause. The algae will always come back unless the root cause of it's appearance is tackled and rectified.

Forget about killing algae, concentrate on growing plants.

They may have some use in non-planted tank. But even then algae may be a result of over feeding etc.

I certainly agree with Bernard. You might solve the problem but the cause is still there. Correct the cause/causes of the Algae and never a problem again.
It could be a feeding or a lighting problem just to give you two possible causes.

Algone has been tested/used by numerous folks in the hobby and does not work for plant tanks.

Basically think about it like this: if it's not a plant nutrient or somethuing helps the plants(do not worry about the algae at all for moment), then do not add it!

The reason you have algae is due to not providing the proper conditions for the plants, not a lack of algae killer...............

Think about that for a moment.
Now which notion will provide a long term solution?
Which will be better on the $$ over time?

Once you learn to grow plants well, algae killers are a waste of time and never needed.
