I have an onion plant, which quickly reached the surface under my lights. thats when the snails attacked. nibbling brown holes and causing the leaves to bend. Meanwhile, I replaced my spray bar with a normal output hole in an effort to prevent CO2 dissipation. This naturally reduced the force of the water flow. I mention this because a plant book mentioned that onion plants enjoy moving water. (my filter is the medium sized fllstar on a 36 gallon tank) I provide 80 watts of CF light as well. As far as the snails go, my local aquarium shop recommended coppersafe (cleated copper sulfate) and I am still awaitng results. (its only been a day, and my back up plan is a simple snail trap). based on the information given, is it just the snails or other factors as well?

Growing in very fast-flowing rivers. Also It will reach full size when grown in bright light in rich substrate.

I would say that if you do not have all this there could be problems. That does not mean it will not grow but this it what the plant prefers to grow to its full size.
