	planting after cycling
NowherMan6 Fish Master Posts: 1880 Kudos: 922 Votes: 69 Registered: 21-Jun-2004	hi this topic came up in another post and i wanted to see what the experts think. ive just finished cycling my tank. there are currently 11 little tiger barbs in there. my question is, is it ok to plant my tank now, after the cycle? or are there harmful repercussions? id appreciate it if someone could explain this to me... *Back in the saddle!*

The longer answer is that you can simply place the gravel, pour in the water, plant the plants, and then cycle the tank. Either way works. The difficulty with the planted tank during cycling is that with lots of plants, you can't get good readings of the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates as the plants soak them up as soon as they develop.
