I've have great luck with floating elodea, so much that I now have it in all my tanks. Many pieces have long roots, and I'd like to give planting it a try but I'm not sure what to do. Some of the pieces are very long, and most often the roots are in the center. Do I just break it at some point above where the roots start? I assume I have to remove any leaves that will go below the substrate. Any help would be very much appreciated

Snip the stems 3-4 cm below the root sprouting segment.

Hi,
With this and other stem plants, most folks just use
sharp scissors and snip the plants in half. Then you
plant them, in groups of three, where you want the
new clump to grow. In your case, I'd snip the
stem about 3/4 of an inch below the existing roots,
and then snip the roots down to about 1 or 2 inches
and then again, plant them in groups of three.
