It is home to 3 zebra danios, 3 black widow tetras, and unfortunately a CAE. Not the best fish selection for a 10g, I know. I am going to change the gravel before I add plants. Will a pebble gravel work..like the kind from Big Al's..or is it too big? I have a hard time with the measurements..and deciding if its too big, or not. :%) Right now the water stays around 78-80 degrees F..but it drops down a few degrees as it gets cooler. I need to check the pH again, but I think it was around 7.6. The plants I am thinking about are : 4 Anubias Nana 6 Dwarf Sag (for the front) 2 Java Ferns (if any) 2 Crypt Wendtii 4 Cabomba (for the background) 4 Wisteria (also for the background) My lighting is the standard hood. I am going to try to get around 2 wpg when I get a new bulb. Only one side of the hood works so I can only have one bulb. Do I have too many plants...too less? Will these work? I want to get them in the next couple weeks so I need some advice. ![]() Kristin |

I also bought a twin 18ins light unit 1 daylight & 1 plant growth tubes both 15w The substrate is 2-3mm natural mixed medium-darkish brown 3-5ins deep Your plant list the Anubias requires to be tied to DW or a rock it is not advisable to plant it. The Crypt Nevilli could be easer to grow and grow them in two groups of three this will bunch them up and have a far better appearance. For the front I suggest Lobelia Cardinals very easy to grow and keep it as low as you require. I believe this can be bought as a seed in Canada (yes it is the same plant that grows wild & has red flowers) Mix the back ground plants up and in bunches of three as well. Keith ![]() ![]() 4 Anubias Nana 6 Dwarf Sag (for the front) 2 Java Ferns (if any) 2 Crypt Wendtii 4 Cabomba (for the background) 4 Wisteria (also for the backgroud Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wisteria can easily get quite large, if you're up for the trimming though it does make a great filling plant. Java ferns also can get large, it'll depend on what type you get, I personally find the lace javas make a good counter point if you've got mostly straight leaved plants. Crypts will work but plant them far apart enough that they'll have room to expand. If half of your light fixture doesnt work, I'd look to getting a new one, you want your light to be balanced. If you havent got the money for that right know (I know how that can be ![]() ^_^[hr width='40%'] ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am ordering from aquatic plant depot, and they don't have the Crypt Nevilli. Also, I decided not to get java fern...I was just getting it because I thought it might be one of the easier plants to grow. Do you have any suggestions on mid ground plants? Besides the java fern and anubias. I am going to get either driftwood or rocks to tie them to. I'm going to see if my boyfriend can fix my hood. (He has told me he can but he has never looked at it to see what the problem is :%)) Then I can get another 10 watt bulb and it will be even! ![]() Ok enough of my rambling. I appreciate the advice. If either of you can think of another midground plant or two..that is fairly easy, and medium light, I would be so happy! I know it will cost some money to do this, but I'm really excited and anxious to get started! ![]() |

What height are you looking at? Do you want an over all carpet or several bunches (same species & variety) scattered?
