bettachris     Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004   | i was in my lfs and there was some plants and the (potted plants) were more $. now is it nessecary to get the plants potted or can i get them bare roots. |

FRANK       Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002  | Hi, Think of the little pots that the aquarium plants come in as the equivalant of the trays of 4,6 or 8 that the flowers and other terrestrial plants come in from the plant nursery. They are started in them and when purchased and brought home, they are supposed to be transplanted into the flower garden (aquarium substrate). If you want to really grow any of those plants, and still be able to readily remove them, transplant them into small clay pots with a la (NOT enriched) and a cap la gravel. You would probably want to plug up the drain hole in the bottom as when you pick the pot up, or remove it, the soil will drain out the bottom and make a REAL MESS in the tank.
