So I got my 90g, made it home without breaking it, through the door, down the steps, through the door, around the corner... It's finally on the stand and... I can't reach the bottom Not even standing on a chair. I poured in the eco complete and I can't reach to smooth it out. A fish net doesn't work either. How do you plant a big tank?

Exactly the length of my arm so my finger tips can touch the substrate at the very front right next to me. I think a 90g is 24" tall and 18" wide.

Maybe a spatula with a ruler taped to it for extra length

I'll do graffiti,

Not that my tank is so big, but I think you would need something like this]http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_22&products_id=35[/link] or something like [link=this.

It seems like a lot of people are having that problem latly. A problem that I would have never thought of. Is it posible to get a shorter stand? That or make something to get down there. or find some one with long arms.

But how tall are you? I told chris he has to do it. He's a foot taller than me. He's not thrilled to help me anymore after moving 2 aquarium stands and carrying half the 90g down the stairs. I'll have to see what I can find to use for aquarium tools. This is one reason I didn't get the 120g.

It's not taller it's wider. Which means to reach the back for planting any tall plants I'd have to be partially underwater or drain the tank everytime. Unless I could stick in the middle of the room and reach it from both sides but I can't do that. The 2nd reason I didn't get it is cause it would be a pain to light 120gallons of water with only 4' length. Aquatic gardening tools are on sale

A scene from Mission: Impossible is coming to mind....

Yep I'd suggest getting some tools like those gripper type tongs that untitled linked to, otherwise it will be hard for you to do necessary upkeep on the plants.

I'm only tall 5 foot 10 inches & if you cannot reach the bottom, you can get a stool of something to step on.

I hope I can get this right.

Just have enough water in the tank about 2-3ins above the substrate.

Get a strong supporting step ladder tall enough so thatb you can lean righ over the tank.

Place a towl on the edges of the tank so that you will not cut your self.

Lean over rather than lean against the tank, against it could crack it.

Finally I suggest two things do a full size plan of what you want to do and get help some one to pass the plants to you while you are up the steps.

Does this help you at all?

Keith

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

I definitely think that you should follow Keith’s advice.

But he forgot to mention one important fact:

Make sure that, while doing this, you have someone in the room with a video camera, just in case. We would certainly appreciate some footage of a dive from a ladder into a tank.

"Girl falls from ladder and gets stuck in large fish tank"
Jason I'm barely 5'. Standing on a tall chair I managed to smooth most of the substrate but with the water 4" low my shoulder was still mostly under water and my hair got wet. I'd rather not get that wet everytime and I don't really want to drain it again. It took me 2 days to fill it. Looks like next I'm borrowing a hose so I don't have to haul a 2g bucket back and forth. Another problem is the water here comes out of tap at 6.4 and goes up to 8.0. Would that much co2 and ph change be ok on the plants? My wellwater does the same thing but I have room at the house to let the water sit. Someone said it's because of the filtration method used on the tapwater. After I get the fish moved I'm switching to using ro water but for now I thought I'd fill it and let it sit so the fish have the same water here as they are currently in.
