How do I get a small plant from my 12" long anubias plant? There is a chunk of stem sticking off the driftwood out over the substrate and it has 2 little leaves on it. Can I just cut it off? I want a small piece for a 2g tank. Can I wedge it between 2 small rocks to grow? I don't really have room for a good anubias growing rock or driftwood chunk.

as long as u dont damage the main rhizome(the thicker part of the root)...u may..just make sure the baby plant is big enuf (say more than 2 inches long) in able to thrive...and just...as long as the plant is secure...it will anchor itself in due time(i hope the rock is not so smooth, otherwise, it will take some time b4 it atttaches itself)

I'd usually wait until there are a few leaves (4-5) before separating it from the main plant. This will give a greater success rate for your new plant.

I should not assume anything but is the Anubias the large leafed variety if so it will grow too big for a 2G tank.

If it is one of the smaller leafed varieties I certainly would wait for it to grow at least 3-4ins before cutting it off.

Yes it is and yes it will outgrow 2gallons. Then there's also the 10g, 20g rivertank, 29g and the 90g I'm picking up next week. A slow growing plant like anubias will never outgrow all my tanks. Although those 2 little plants I bought have done a good job of filling in the 55g.

Even in my 5ft Anubias tank the large ones have actually out grown the tank I think I will have to remove at least two of them.

Mine's been in the 55g for a year and is nowhere near outgrowing it. It has filled in the gap I left for it but would need to get over three times it's current size to come close to outgrowing the tank.
