I don't know why, but for some reason I've had luck with incandescent lighting in tanks 10g and smaller.

I've tried moneywort unsuccessfully in flourescent lit tanks, so I thought I'd share this pic. It's a guppy fry tank, heat provided by the incandescent bulb, the moneywort is absolutely gorgeous and now growing out of the hood

That moneywart is really good looking. If that is doing good for you, i think you should also try Bacopa Caroliniana. I have the moneywart and the Bacopa Caroliniana in my 29 gallon, both are doing great. People grew plants with incandescent lamps way before the invention of flourescents.

Very true, I hadn't thought of that.

Thanks for the plant suggestion, I've actually been looking for something else to add to this tank

Hi,
It's not that you cannot grow plants with incandescent light
bulbs, the problem comes from trying to get enough light
over a tank to grow some of the more light demanding plants
and the resultant cluster of high power bulbs and the huge
amount of heat that they put off. At some point it is far
easier to use flourscents, which consume far less power,
put out more light per watt consumed, and operate far, far,
cooler.

My tank with the same hood as that used to get up to 90F during the day due to the incandescent bulbs. I switched it over to compact fluorescent after it cooked a few fish. Yes they will grow plants but you can get a broader choice and spectrum of bulbs alot easier in flourescent as well as alot less heat so I see no reason to use incandescents for anything.
