Dieing Fish? | |
dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | Your gravity and temp seem a bit low. Gravity should be about 1.023 and your temp should be about 78 to 81 f. Was there anything else that had changed in the tank? Dan Dan |

What kind of current/water movement do you have in the tank? |

eBGDAE Hobbyist Posts: 63 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Feb-2005 | I re-checked my nitrates today and they were at about 21 or 19 ppm. Is that bad? If so how do i lower them? |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | For a reef that's a bit high, it's best to keep it below 20. For a FOWLR, that's not to bad, but still good to keep it lower. Dan |

DarkRealm Overlord Moderator metal-R-us Posts: 5962 Kudos: 2166 Registered: 23-Sep-2002 | awwww, Dan we were doing so good at agreeing lately Id try to keep them lower than 10ppm in a reef tank...20ppm for a fish only or FOWLR. |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | I should have went on, lower is best. The reason I use 20 is that's my lowest scale, if that shows up, then a water change is in order. Dan |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | That's a bit better. Give it a few days and then test again, if your levels are still that high or higher, then do another water change. After a few days, the levels will come down. Dan Dan |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | Your water conditions seem fine, but I would get those nitrates down with a water change. When you added the fresh water, did you pour it right on the star fish? Dan Dan |

eBGDAE Hobbyist Posts: 63 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Feb-2005 | i rechecked my water conditions today and Ammonia is 0, Nitrates are 2, ph is 8.3, and nitrite is 0. |

eBGDAE Hobbyist Posts: 63 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Feb-2005 | How sad. I did some lil' research and it seems as if my starfish is sick or stressed. I have done nothing (I think) that would stress my starfish out, although i think i did a bad thing when i added freshwater directly to my tank to lower the specific gravity. But now all i need to know is how to treat it. |

eBGDAE Hobbyist Posts: 63 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Feb-2005 | Today part of its tentacle fell off and now it looks like its ripping in half, because it has a cut right down the center almost the thing in half...i must be bad at reefkeeping |
