Getting rid of glass anemones | |
steve711 Big Fish Posts: 496 Kudos: 631 Registered: 27-Sep-2002 | My 12 gallon nano cube has started to develop some glass anemones and they are spreading fast. I wanna get rid of them. I have read that pepermint shrimp will eat them. Is this true? Also what are some other methods of getting rid of them. Thanks in advance. -Steve |

I woudl suggest getting 3 or 4 of them to make sure you get one or more that will eat them. Another option is to use PHup and a seringe and squirt just a little in to each one. This is a real pain and will never get rid of all of them. A good fish is a copper banded butterfly, but this fish will be to big for your tank. I have also heard about a nudi that will eat them, but can't remember what kind it is. Dan |

I have heard that squirting them to get rid of them is a pain so i only plan to use that on the two larget ones that may be harder for the shrimp to eat. As for the pepermint shrimp sinse my salt water store is an hour and a half away I wouldnt be able to return any at a later time. So what would you suggest as a number for permanent pepermint shrimp residents to the tank? |

However, I have to say that if you can find it, Joe's Juice works really well.. I was lucky enough to have a LFS that carries it and it works quickly without much fuss.. Good Luck with it.. |

In fact, I've seen the destruction that stuff can cause. A little homemade remedy I cam across: Vodka Injection. Just got buy a 1/2 pint of some cheap vodka (~$2) and inject it into the ba So far, no negative reprocutions with said method. Although, in a tank that small, I'd limit it to 2 or 3 injections per every 3 days. |

Granted, my tank isn't stocked to the brim with corals, but I've treated aiptasias that are in very close proximity to my soft corals and even got some on a GSP clump without problem.. Even on the website there is documentation of them treating aiptasia in reef setups containing valuable anemones.. If you can post a link or something, JMT1SOMR, I'd be interested in reading about it.. |

He has an awesome 5.5ga full of SPS and baby clams. He was treating it with Joes Juice and it pretty much destroyed the tank. The clam and some of the SPS recovered, but it was a long process and they had to be moved into larger systems for it to happen. I will personally never use the stuff after seeing in person the damage it can do. And, for reference, here's a link to some pics I took of his tanks: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34861&highlight=tanks -Justin |
