I bought lava rock but i dont know if its safe to use. The rock is sorta falling apart, sand and rock residue come out when i rinse it. I got it cheap to, the lava rock was meant for gardens or something because i got it from the planting store. Is it okay to use?

Probably not. You should only really use stuff meant for an aquarium in an aquarium, not stuff meant for gardens etc.

I would say don't use it. There could be minirals that will leach out in to your tank.
