Making your own aquacultured rock | |
trace-russ Big Fish Posts: 479 Kudos: 991 Votes: 10 Registered: 25-Sep-2003 | Hi guys and gals, Has anyone tried to make their own rock for their tanks?? Ive just gone on to a site that explains how to make aquacultured rock and it seems easy enough providing that you can activate the coralline algae. Has anyone used grunge to activate live sand?? If so what result did you get?? Any suggestions or any one tell me why this is not pracical. Thanks Trace Last edited by trace-russ at 22-Jun-2005 16:04 |

I'm sorta confused. :%) With time, even pieces of "dead" live rock, sometimes referred to as ba Coralline algae growth is triggered mainly by high calcium I thought. I'm trying to get good coralline growth in my tank now, because when I start stocking with SPS the calcium is going to be sucked right up. Could you link to this site? -Ferret [hr width='40%'] I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut My weakness is that I care too much And my scars remind me that the past is real I tear my heart open just to feel -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

There are a lot of people that dont realize that DIY rock is not a renewable resource....the products used to make the DIY rock are not being replaced naturally. Live rock on the other hand is constantly being made, and we dont even put a dent in it with what we harvest for the hobby. With that being said, there are a lot of people that are using it. As stated before, it is essential to cure it in a seperate holding vessel until your PH comes down to that of the tap water that you are using. |
