Nice picture of the little rainbow. All of the salt stuff looks pretty nice too. When I first read that you were going to go with a bare bottom tank I didn't think it would look good but it does. Nice work!

Thanks everyone .

Wings-I don't like the look of bare bottom over a nice deep sand bed, but it's a lot easier to tend to, at least so far.

lol, I don't have a proper thread to post my fw stuff in anymore, not that there's much of it.

They seem to annoy the hammer coral a little bit. It's still growing though, and has colored up a lot since that last picture, so I don't think it's anything major.

Thanks Fish Patty.

I actually treated myself to a few new coral frags today. Good scores on my tests and all. I'll get more pics when they settle in.

yeah, the closeup is my pocillopora. That thing has been growing like crazy lately. Not much new unfortunately. I've been consumed with schoolwork. I'll try and give an update this weekend though.

Thanks, that one was a bit of a "rescue" that turned out to be pretty good.

I'm really still doing pretty well. Almost every saturday sees a waterchange. I've missed two I think since I set this up. One of those I made up for in the middle of the week, so it doesn't really count. The part that's really surprising (20 minute wcs are pretty easy lol) is that every other week I soak all the equipment in a vinegar-water bath to clean it off. This way it blends in with the background really well. I also thoroughly clean out the Aquaclear every week so that any detritus it catches is exported instead of broken down into nitrates.

I'm really beginning to see a change in coral growth and color (more) and algae growth (more coraline, less of the nuisance stuff).

nice

did you turn the HOB into a fuge, dsb or just leave it running like a standard HOB?

Do your Koralias make much noise now that theve been running for a while? (Alot of reefers over here are having this problem)

Thanks Patty

Alex-The koralias run silent. The problem that other people have is that they accidentally knock out a small piece of plastic in the bottom of the propeller housing. I've done it myself, and when run without it, the pump makes a racket. I found the piece of plastic in the drain and put it back in place and it's silent again. Granted, it's a poor design, but if you are careful there's not a big problem.

I kept the Aquaclear as a mech/chem filter. I run a course filter pad (the one that comes with the filter), a fine filter pad, and carbon....I think it's chemi pure. I haven't tested any PO4 yet, but I have some phosguard on hand if I need to use that. The whole deal gets cleaned out weekly. I figured it would serve that purpose better than if I had used it as a fuge. It probably would have been much too small to serve that purpose well.

Such a great collection of colours matty, you have a talent

While I do like your reef setup a lot, my first love is the planted tank & your little shrimp tank's looking pretty sharp. Must be providing a nice home for such a pretty baby.

Cheers

Thanks for stopping in and the nice words Robyn.

I don't mind you being biased towards the planted setups at all. I still enjoy them a lot.

Hey Matt...

Still at TFP, huh? I find myself missing it from time to time.

Your tank's looking good! I just set up my first reef, but I also completely ran out of cash so I have nothing to stock it with, and the hardware that was to be central to the tank's design will have to wait a while.

You should sell all those power heads and get a Vortech.

hey nate! I've actually moved to Charlotte NC. I'm working at a place called fintastic. It's a bit of a step up from TFP. The coral selection is a lot bigger, so I'm happy. This tank is actually a planted tank again, and I have a new frag rack up just for growing corals. Since that is three 30breeders stacked up the vortech wouldn't be the best way to go. Too expensive for me, even at cost. I'll stick with the korallias, they move plenty of water for a 30g tank.

Not sure what an efflo is DRO, so I guess not. Maybe some type of acro? There's some pocillopora, and a couple echinophylias in the pic on the bottom left though. I never was able to get acros to grow for some reason, I think it was my clown goby tearing them up. No worries though, I'm growing all sorts of colorful sticks now!

In your one pic "from the left" on the BB, closest coral to the edge looks like an acropora efflorescens. Youre gonna make me edit the photo and circle it arent you?

For reals though, I bought that as a poccilopora, but you know your sticks better than I do. I'll give you a close up.
