OK, i saw this in a local LFS. It was labelled up as a coral (but no name). It may well be a coral, but it has a strange sort of mouth in the middle of it. Is this normal or could it be an anenome?? Sorry this may be a very stupid question.

Anyway, let us know what you think it is, a coral or anenome and what type. it is lovely though!

Excuse the poor quality Picture, it was teken with my phone.

Looking at the picture it does resemble a seba anemone, but I don't think i tis. I'll lean more to it being something along the lines of a goniporia(sp) It looks like there are defined lines around the base of each tenticle. Is there a stony base on this that each tenticle goes in to?

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply. The lines are a lovely mixture of Green and Purple, and seem to be patterned all over the base. However underneath it appears there is a stony base (no legs, tenticles etc) it actually looks quite like a pizza base!

Any mor suggestions, will be great. Also good links to what you think it may be.

I really want to buy it, but unsure of the care level, light requirements etc.

Cheers Rob

Its either a Fungia or a Heliofungia aka a plate coral. To me it looks like a Heliofungia actiniformis.

Brilliant! Thanks for the info. So it's basically one of these

Looks like its a possibility for my tank then. Yay! Will have to invest in a tester for Calcium as well.

Would you need to feed it 'directly' (ie. through a tube?) or will it catch its own food when feeding other creatures?

It is really a nice coral! Also would a clown fish take to it due to it's similiarity to an anenome?

Some clownfish do take it as an anemonie. When I had my two fugias they caught brine shrimp with their tenticles at feeding time. Make sure its on the bottom of the tank and with plenty of water movement so that sand and dirty stuff dont get traped in it. Good luck mate

That's it, long tentacled plate.

They will filter out food from the water. I wouldn't stress about feeding them directly unless you start noticing problems.

Agree with JMT......as long as your lighting is good enough for it then you shouldnt have to worry about feeding it. You can however feed it a chunk of raw shrimp once a week if you want its growth to explode.

Lol!

Yeah, I dunno about the US, but Camera phones are very big over here. I think you can now get them at about 1m mega pixels, which is quite impressive!

Got my Coral By the way! its sitting nicely on my sandbed and looks to be doing very well! Will try and take some pics with my proper camera soon!

Cheers for all the info
Rob
