Can I add sand to increase my bed size in an established tank. I have about 2 inches in my 29 gal. and would like to increase it. Any thoughts

yes you can, but only increase it by about a half inch at a time. Add a 1/2 inch, then wait a week before adding another half inch. This will give your critters time to migrate back up to the top layer instead of burying them so deep that they cant get out.

A DSB only needs to be around 3 inches deep to get NNR (natural nitrate reduction).

Is there a reason why you want more then 2"? Such as a fish that digs in the sand? Or are you looking to start nitrification? To start this, another 1/2" should be enough. 2" to 3" is all that's needed.
