Not sure id recommend em for newbies, theyre known for shyness and waning from stress in tanks with aggressive cagemates, dodgy water quality, and interfering owners, also a species quite susceptible to hexamita. Many keepers rate them to be at least as tricky as discus , and a good deal harder to breed. ph can be as low as 5.0 Warmer temp ranges are also recommended, often this species wanes unless kept above 80f and often as high as 86f is needed. Care is pretty much the same as severums and discus, and its also worth mentioning them as suitable cagemates.

Diet- worth mentioning that like rainbow cichlids they should be allowed to rasp algae in addition to all the usual cichlid pellets and granular foods, and algae wafers and veggie flakes will be accepted.Balance of diet should be leaning toward herbivory, and they will eat some plants .

Breeding will rely on aufwuchs, and the young are difficult to feed without them.

Worth entering in common name as "waroo" too, its often used.
