The family Mastacembelidae is primarily found in freshwater, and very rarely are spiny eels actually found in brackish water.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

heres a link ive found-
http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=630

Ive looked at the fishbase profile, and even though it states that the species also inhabits brackish water, it also says that it is potamodromous, or only migrates within freshwater, so i honestly don't know whether or not to believe it.

EDIT: Please deny this proposed profile change.
This entire time, I was under the impression that this profile was for macrognathus siamensis, which was a stupid mistake on my part.
All of this confusion over mistaken identity stems from the fact that macrognathus oculeatus is typically known as the lesser spiny eel, rather than the peacock spiny eel, which is the name typically given to macrognathus siamensis. Being that the Lesser Spiny Eel is actually quite rare in the hobby (as opposed to the Peacock Spiny Eel, which is very common), I just came to the conclusion that the scientific name on the profile was incorrect.
In reality, everything on this profile is quite correct, as Macrognathus oculeatus is one of the few exceptions to the primarily freshwater family; in the wild, it is sometimes found in brackish environments (unlike Macrognathus siamensis, which rarely ever ventures far from its freshwater environment).
Therefore, I will add Lesser Spiny Eel to the list of common names on the profile, and when I have a chance, I will also create a profile for Macrognathus siamensis, the real peacock spiny eel.

Sorry for all of the confusion
