The stand framework is made of 3/4" birch marine plywood cut to a 3" width. I assembled the frame with biscuit joints, but a butt joint and cleats (metal or wood) would work as well. Make sure to use a marine glue on all joints along with screws (or biscuits). The top and inner shelf are 1/2" pine plywood. The two sides are just 1/4" birch plywood glued and nailed into the side frames. The doors are made of 1 X 8 White pine glued together and then routed around three sides. The trim I got at Home Depot (3" base molding). I placed leveling feet on all four corners so I can make sure the tank sits level. I finished the whole stand with 6 (yes, six) coats of Spar Urethane. The glue I used is called "Gorilla Glue" and can also be found at Home Depot or other hardware store.

The stand is for a 46 gallon bowfront tank and is 36" wide by 18" deep (a 40 gallon breeder would fit as well) and is 30" high off the floor. HTH, good luck with your stand project!
