What I did was to take a rubberband and snap it around the outflow (you have to slip it around the intake tube as well) and buy some cheap filter foam. Cut a piece to fit the size of the outflow and stick it under the rubberband. Voila... insta-current reduction. Hang on *runs for digicam* lemme see if I can get a decent pic. The whole arrangement is completely hidden by the light strip, so you can't see the modifications (which aren't terribly artistic). The rubberband does snap every so often, so it needs to be replaced when it does, but the filter foam is easily rinsed out (and it will collect a bit of algae). The nice thing is that this arrangement doesn't decrease the filter's power, it just spreads out the outflow so that the current is muchly decreased. I've had my filter for about a year and I still have that foam in... I find the biowheel creates too much surface current and it blows my poor girls all over the place. They still like to play BELOW the filter in the current, but they like it much better with the foam there. Believe me, they pout when the rubberband breaks and the foam falls off. Oh, and you'll have to cut a slightly deeper piece out of the lid, otherwise the water will splash up over it. Or, at least it did with my glass top. Of course, I've hung the 125 on a 20 gallon long... perhaps it's a bit overfiltered? ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Well, that's my twenty gallon long, which is the top shelf of a duel stand (ten on the bottom). It has a glass top with a light strip over it and unless I pull the top/strip forward like I did for the picture, you can't see the sponge. Well... maybe if you're taller than my short lil 5'6" you could, but I can't! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Uh... the blue pad is towards the back with the black plastic towards the front. If you turn it around, the pad catches on the biowheel and it won't turn. *shrugs* I haven't checked the directions since you mentioned it, but this way makes sense to me... ~Meow.
