Hi, I have recently changed the gravel in my tank, as the large gravel was getting stuck in my Goldie's mouth, I opted for the really fine stuff (really tiny). The problem I am having now, is that the gravel vac only seems to pick up gravel and not the waste I am trying to remove. I thought of putting some gauze on the bottom, but I don't think that would let the waste through, and I have tried lifting the vac out when I see it start to rise up the tube, but this doesn't help. Any suggestions welcome.

Get the gravel vac just close enough to vaccum the poop!

Good idea, the only problem with that is, I keep two Goldie's, that rummage through the gravel, so most of the waste is buried anyway, so just skimming the surface of the gravel isn't really an option, it might be that I have to buy one that isn't air driven so I can control the suction, but I'm not sure that would work either...what do people with sand do, surly they can only skim along the top for so long and have to get actually in there every so often to clean what gets buried.

What I do is crimp the hose when the gravel is going up. This slows the suction process. Pretty much like when you are washing your car with a hose, and you want a trickle of water and you don't feel like going to the tap and turning the water pressure down, you bend the hose so only a trickle comes out. So goes with the sucking up fine gravel/sand. Push your gravel vac into the gravel, rise it up and when the gravel starts to climb, bend the hose abit and this eases up the suction.
