Air line Length??? | |
RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | I have a small air pump with a long piece of tube going to an Air stone. Now will the length of the tube change the performance of the stone??? EG/ If I attach 25 cm to it will it produce the same amount of bubbles as if I attached a 80cm piece??? |

Performance of your air stone can also be affected by the quality of the air stone (cheaper ones tend to give you much more grief!), the condition of your pump, as well as the size of the tank you are trying to agitate. Honestly, I think that unless you are trying to create a specific look in your tank that involves lots of bubbles you really don't need to bother with air stones at all. Most are noisy and irritating, and their use can cause undue stress in fish that would much prefer to have a nice calm environment to surf around in. L. |

If you use the 80cm or 105cm it shouldn't make a difference...now if you are going to use 100 metres, then there would be a difference...I always tend to cut mine a little longer, just to be sure that there is the length I need...I also tend to by airpumps that are for 60+ gallon tanks, even for the smaller tanks:%), and I don't use splitters because then you are not going to get the pressure that you want...just my thoughts, heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Also, the direction that you are pushing the air has an effect. if you are trying to push the air UP the tubing, it has a harder time than pushing DOWN. Apparently the same thing goes for electricity as well, and things like water that we all know about. |
