Algal scrapers and bow fronted tanks. | |
Davser Small Fry Posts: 4 Kudos: 3 Votes: 0 Registered: 13-May-2005 | Hello folks! First post so be kind! I've a Vision 180 and thinking about getting a magnetic scraper but I'm not sure if having a bow front will cause problems. Is there anyone out there with experience of using magnetic scrapers on bow fronted tanks? Any help is most appreciated. |

If the tank is slightly bowed, you don't have any problems with Algae scrapers, but if you have the corners at a 90% angle, like one of my tanks, than you have to do it by hand or with a very small scraper. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

But to be honest it's not good on straight glass either. The best scraper I've seen is the "Lee" hand scraper that has an abrasive side and a sponge side. You do have to put your hand in the tank, but it works the best. My Scapes |

I have 2 floating magnets & both aren't magfloat & both do a very good job for me. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

The chemicals will not be good for the fish. Just a plain jane sponge. And heck, a little ball of filter floss works just as good, and it's aquarium safe, no doubt. |
