Anyone have Whisper Diatomagic? | |
Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | Hey, need a favor If you have one of these, can you please look at the pump itself and see if there is an o-ring or gasket that is suppose to be at the location where the bag snaps on. I have one of these and none of the bags I have are "snapping" like they usually do and the fit is very loose. I never paid much attention before, but it looks like the groove that is there would or should house some type of O-ring. Need to know soon. Help if you can. Diane |

Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | - Oh my, no. I've had it about 2 years and replace the bags every few changes. I had to go through alot when I put some pagoda stone from the lfs in my tank that apparently had really hardened, dried clay. It dissolved into a powdery mess that only a diatom filter would eventually clean. I had to do it frequently over a 3 month period because each time I stirred the gravel in any way the cloud came back. Diatomagic cleaned it up in no time. I also use it on different tanks, including my nephews. I like to keep the bags separate so I don't introduce something from one tank to another. Like, his doesn't have many of the algaes I have due to plants. I'm sure drying eliminates that chance, but I just like to be safe. If anyone can unsnap it to see if there is a rubber o-ring around that lip, I'd appreciate it. |

Here is how I assemble mine with a new bag and lets see if you can relate: 1) Slide bag into separate plastic housing with the groove in the mouth of the bag neatly in the plastic piece. 2) While in the plastic housing, snap the mouth of the bag into the main pump. 3) Rotate the back of the bag/plastic housing until the notch in the plastic housing snaps into the pin in the main pump. Does this sound familiar? If so, the only way to see if there is an o-ring is before step one. It would be on the pump itself, where the bag mouth mates. It would likely be shiney black rubber. Thanks for trying, anyway. |

I've had horrible green floaty algae in my new saltwater tank. Probably due to an excess of phosphates, and I bought some SeaChem PhosGuard to take care of that. However, the lfs loaned me a Diatomagic to quickly clear up the water for now. It's a mess. I set it up just like I was supposed to. The lfs employee told me everything, and I followed it exactly. However, after five hours of running it, I've had no change in my water clarity. It's still nasty green. Any ideas on why this might be? I'm so frustrated! I finally found something that would help, and it didn't work! Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! |
