Anyone have this Azoo Battery Backup Air Pump | |
Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | Doe anyone have this specific model? I want to know if it would be too powerful for 2.5-3 gallon betta containers that have UGF's that run off of air pumps. I don't want a current so strong that the fish can't rest. I like this idea because it will run for an entire day while I'm at work, should power go out, not just an hour or two that I would get off of UPS. Pricey, yeah, but I an hook both tanks up to this. I'm just kidding I tried one once on something else and it didn't work well. What kind of gang valve is good? I'd rather spend more on one that works well. If you wanted to run two tanks, get the 3 way, hook one up to one tank, the other to another tank, and the third just run some tube somewhere into a pillow or a ball of filter floss to quell the noise. Regulate the airflow to your tanks to where they're not blowing your fish outta the water, bleeding excess off in the stray tube. It will take some patience, but i did it all the time at the shop when i setup the little tanks |

I'll tell you that someone could make a good bit of dough off a UPS that is capable of running at least 12 hours with basic aquarium electricity. Lots of people would buy that baby. When I move, one of my aspirations is to get an automatic generator - one that will kick in if I'm out of town on business. I know it will run me several grand, but the peace of mind year round will be well worth it. They run on natural gas. |

I've got probably a half dozen Penn Plax B-11's which have served me all too well in my 20 long, 36 gallon, & 10 gal. I've actually had it run for 4 days on 2D batteries on a test just before the big blackout. I replaced the batteries and a week later, they ran for 36 hours, then my power returned. What I need is something that will kick in to keep the UGF's from fouling during a power outage if I'm away. I actually have a Honda 2000i generator I can run, if I'm home. But, if I'm away for the day, I don't want to find that power was out to my UGF's for six hours, then suddenly went back on spewing out potentially deadly bacteria. Keeping it aerated would be best. I actually thought of drilling a hole through the outflow tube so I could just drop a second air line connected to a Penn Plax B-11. This may work on one of them, but the other container is built more complex, so it won't be as easy. That would be the cheapest route for me. If they are plugged in and switched on, they automatically run if the power is cut. And, I've found the Penn Plax B-11's to be very robust in terms of output in contrast to the Hagen one, which was quite weak. |

I had to live with a very inconvenient string of power outages lasting anywhere from 2 hours to 12 hours. I would estimate about 10-12 outages in a span of 4 weeks, all unexpected. When that happens, you brace yourself when someone sneezes. For some people, power outages come every few years. For others, it's a regular thing, so it's always in your planning. |
