Hello, I am hoping someone out there can help me. I will be moving in 30 days and need to transport my fish. I have Battery operated air pump but not any heaters. Are there such things? If not, how should one transport fish in the winter? I will be using three 5 gal buckets. Any help is a big help,

thank you

I have never heard of a battery heater.

How far is the place your moving to?

Also, how are you taking them to the new place?? (I'm assuming in the car) - you can just put the heat on.

Ive personally never herd of a battery powered heater myself. But if you really want to use a heater have you concidered a power inverter for your car suck as the one in the link below and using regular heaters.

If it was me, for the car ride, I'd probably bag the fish and put them inside coolers. If you wanted some extra heat, you could put some heat packs or something in the cooler, too. Once I got there, I'd probably transfer the fish to buckets while I set up the tank.

A typical AA battery has enough juice to power a 50-watt heater for about five minutes, at best, so a battery-powered heater would be fairly iffy on the sales front. The only use for it would be fish transportation.

Inverters are great, you can even get one to run a full 27" TV for those get away from everything camping trips!!

Or you can slap one of those hunters heat packs hand warmer dealies in a nice new ziploc bag?

Those hand/foot heat packs are what are used to keep fish from getting too cold when being transported long distances e.g mail order fish. Ask your lfs if they have any styrofoam boxes (they hold heat in well) for moving fish you could have (mine give them away) and use one of those heat packs under a good layer of newspaper to keep the fish from getting cold. To best make use of this, and to conserve heat best, you might want to consider using large fish bags with the styro boxes + heat packs, with newspaper and other insulating materials to keep the heat in. Buckets will lose heat fairly rapidly. If you are worried about the fishes air supply, pack only a few fish per bag, and you could open the bags up and blow new air into them halfway into the journey.

Thank you all. I think I am going to go with the Power inverter. I have an outlet in the back of the SUV so that will work.
