You can do what OldTimer suggested, but the issue with that is that you really can only cut down the INTAKE so far before the biowheel will stop turning. However, slowing down the current isn't too hard if you mess with the outflow of the filter. I have betta girls in my tank with a biowheel filter and it made too much current for them to easily go up to the surface to get air. What I did was slip a rubberband around the output of the filter (you have to slip it around the intake tube, as well) and then get a cheap piece of filter foam, cut it to size, and slip it into the space between the rubberband and the outflow "ramp." It's not classy, but you're not going to see it behind the lights, etc. You have to replace the rubberband every so often (every other month or so) because it will snap after being taut and under the constant stream of water. You may also need to cut the hole in the cover plastic bigger so that water won't spill over the lid. This whole setup just spreads out the water flow, so that the current - especially the surface current - is reduced. You could also just get tall decorations to put in front of the filter, to break up the current. *shrugs* ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
