Im going to replace my 55 gal aquarium, 48x12x24" to a 90gal 48x20x24". The only difference are 8 inches more width. The stand is a beautiful cabinet with a 2x1 hollow metal tubes welded togheter with diagonal braces at three sides, excluding the doors of course. The dimensions of the frame inside the cabinet are exactly matched to the 90gal tank that I want.

My questions are...

1) Should I use 1/2" glass or stick with the 9mm?
2) Since there are no plastic frames, how the aluminum should it be, welded or just bent at the corners?
3) Could my existing stand be capable of hold the added weight?
