Somehow my aquaclear got cracked right on the part where the water cascades into the tank so now half of the water spills out around the tank. After cleaning up the huge water mess i need to figure out how to fix this. What kind of glue should i use? If i glue along the crack on the outside of the filter i do not think the glue will get into the water flow. I am so upset i bought it yesterday! arrrgh!

If you bought it yesterday, then I would suggest returning it. Clean it up and tell them that you pulled it out of the box like that. Spoken from experiance, and it worked.

If you want to fix it I would suggest silicone. It bonds to plastic fairly well, and there's no problems with it. It has to dry though.

Again, I would clean it up, put it back in the box, and return it. It not your fault it broke, right?

Hey Hookter,

I dropped mine on the floor a while ago and I used fish safe silicone to repair it. It did a good job but it isn't as good as it was b4.

I bought it off of aquabid and i don't feel like returning it because i know it is fixable and i am pretty sure that i broke it. I will go buy some silicone tomorrow, how much does it usually cost? Thanks so much for your responses.

Woult it be ok to use gorilla glue since i can glue it on the outside of the plastic and it will not touch the water? Or should i not take the chance?

I'd be kind of cautious about that -- I've found out the hard way that fish are pretty sensitive to the fumes from various forms of epoxy and other glues. Go with the Aquarium Silicone.

It will be much cheaper to buy the silicone at a home supply store. Just make sure you get GE Silicone I as it has no additives for mold prevention and is safe for aquariums. You'll pay less for a caulking size tube at a home supply store than you will for a real small tube of "Aquarium Silicone" at a pet store.

PVC cement works wll also.It is kinda like welding the plastic since it melts it back together.yes its fish safe! using the purple primer first also makes it stronger.

well i used silicone and *cross my fingers* and pretty sure it worked. The filter has not leaked yet, i realized that i had also cracked it in another place, so i repaired that crack also. So far so good, no leaking yet. Thanks for all your help.

One of my HOB filters srarted to crack on the side where it hangs on the tank. I was holding it from the side when it was full of water. It happens.
