DIY 29 GALLON TANK STAND | |
JTF Enthusiast Posts: 245 Registered: 16-May-2004 | I had all the wood cut at my local wood shop, what is the trick to making sure the finished product is straight/level & square. My first attempt at one didn't work as it was slighty warped and uneven. Any tips from any work workers or do it yourselfers would be appreciated. I am planning to try again. |

I cut all the pieces perfectly square, then I started nailing everything together. In the end, the stand was out of square and very unsturdy. So, I started throwing some screws into the stand and it straightened out and became very sturdy. I have since built three other stands from scratch using only screws. Haven't had any problems with them either. |

Nice straight cuts every time A circular saw will do it, but you have to have a darn good eye and steady hand. Clamps and wood glue help to hold it while putting it together with the proper wood screws. Use nothing short of 1/2" on smaller aquarium stands (10 gal minimum). |

Drill your outer holes where you want them, then for the piece your drilling into.... Place it nice and square to the one you've already drilled and with a long nail put a small hole where it needs to be, then drill it. After all your holes are drilled the wood should snug up better, as it wont go off course because of a knot or other flaw in the wood. For screws, wood screws will works but dry wall screws tighten as they go in alot better... Good Luck |
