I did a rough drawing of a sump filter that I am planning to use with my new tank. Will it be ok?

Are you going to have a pump "pull" the water out of the sump back into the tank?

Do I need to or will the powerhead just keep the current going?

the pump will need to be at the right end pushing water back up to the tank otherwise it will just move the water around in the sump.

If the pump is at that end of the tank will the suction be enough to pull the water through the tank. I think I am getting a corner column so my understanding is that the pump will not need to pull the water in because gravity will take care of that however I will need something to push the water through the sump tank and back into the main tank. Would two smaller sumps do a better job(one pushing water, one pulling)?
At each end of the sump tank.

you dont need a pump at the beginning of the sump too push water to the other side. water will naturally flow through the filter padding and media to the other side. then you need a pump to push it back up to the tank.

it sounds like you might wanna read up on sumps and how they work before you go any further. these have the potential of flooding your room if the overflow isnt set correctly. your sump can over flow if its allowing to much water to come down or it can over flow your tank if your overflow cant keep up. there alot of issues that require attention before you fire a sump up. even if a sump is running perfectly when electricity is on whats gona happen when the power goes out? is there gona be a syphon draining water from your tank when your not home over flowing the sump?

anyway i deffinetly suggest some serious reading before tackling this DIY project.
