Decent Eclipse System 2 lighting retro? | |
coffeeman Enthusiast Posts: 186 Kudos: 60 Votes: 21 Registered: 15-Jan-2003 | Hello - I'm going to be getting a free Eclipse system 2, 25 galon tank soon. It's come to my attention that the lighting in that tank sucks. Badly. I've been looking around for lighting retrofits, but the only one I can find is for a single 32 watt powercompact, which is pretty pitiful. Does anyone know of a better retrofit kit, or a link to DIY retro instructions? I figure I should be able to get at least a 23" 65 watt bulb in there. |

Hi Derek, We have no Kits specifically designed for Eclipse retrofits nor do we make any recommendations in this regard. We have looked at retrofitting Eclipse hoods but there always are two unresolved issues, 1)how to adequately protect the retrofitted lights from moisture, and, 2) the ability of the ABS plastic in those hoods to withstand the heat of additional wattage. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Regards, Kim Bryant A H Supply Edit: I may try it anyway, but only if I find some success stories about people who have successfully done it. I guess the worst case schenario is that I mess up a free tank top and replace it with something that will do the job. I'm also thinking of swapping the 25 gallon out (I'd use it as a QT tank) and putting a 15 or a 20 high in its place to help get the light closer to the usable live-rock area and bring the wattage needed down to a more reasonable level - for example, if I used a 15 and got 1x65 watt 50/50 in there, I would have 4.3 WPG and probably be able to manage a few low light corals. At the very leats I could do FOWLR. Maybe I'll try to cram a 96 watt powerquad retro in there. If only they made a 24 inch version. |
