Keep the one you blew and take it with you. Any lighting shop sells them. I buy mine @ Home Depot here in the USA. Just make a few calls. I bought 2 for like 4$ US Dollars. LFS's put a premium on them because they want you to buy a new light set.

Ah, electronic ballasts cost much more than $4 in Canada. Old style heavy tar types are dirt cheap but run hotter and are far less effecient than electronic ones. Its pretty easy to tell the difference between tar and electronic (even without reading the fine print - but read it to confirm!) simply by comparing the weight of the units.

Grab the phone book and look for a lighting supply store or a home hardware type store. Phone and see what they have. Read them the info off your old ballast and ask for a comparable unit. If you go to the store, take the old ballast in with you.

Yellow pages are one of the easiest way to go. Save the trip and ask by phone... anyway, electronic ballast are common and it should be what you should pick again.

The electronic types are more sensitive to electric spikes and such, but this is outweighted by the far superior efficiency and quality of the light they provide.

Previously, the old type of ballast used to give uncontinous light (flashing)... that's a thing of the past
